Human[e] Wines

Human[e] Concept

The concept of the Human[e] label was to create a wine to raise money for charity: to be human by being humane. We wanted this to have a global scope so every year we find an artist who represents a different country.

Most of the money raised is given to charities in the United States. A little bit is given to a charity important to the artist in her home country.

In three years we have raised over $100,000 through this project.

When we were going to bottle our first wine from our own vineyard, we wanted to celebrate. We decided to do it by creating the Human[e] project with fruit from our own vineyard going into the inaugural vintage.

2020 Human[e]

2020 Human[e]

The 2020 Human[e] is unique, beautiful blend consisting of 60% Syrah (Naravane Estate, Rocks District) and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon (DuBrul Vineyard, Yakima Valley). The wine has a deep purple color with a complex bouquet of blackberry, black plum, cassis, olive tapenade, white pepper, and Asian spices. On the palate it is equally captivating: cassis, blackberry, sage, thyme, framboise, gravel, and minerals. The finish is beautifully precise and long.

The Human[e] Label

Designed by Jocelyn Tsaih, Taiwan

Tsaih's work aims to touch on our universal human experience as well as what may be beyond it. The focal aspect of her work is an amorphous figure meant to be both a vessel for her own perspective as well as a reflection for viewers to bring their own insights to. Her work emphasizes our shared humanity rather than the distinctions that set us apart.

The figures in Tsaih's work act as extensions of herself. As someone who grew up between multiple cultures and worlds, she's created her own version of the "in-between." This is where the figures, and herself, are free to just be. She utilizes color, form, and composition to create images that convey strong moods, possibility for curiosity, and space for introspection.

2019 Human[e]

2019 Human[e]

The 2019 Human[e] is a 53% Cabernet Sauvignon/ 47% Merlot blend from the esteemed DuBrul Vineyard. We took all the fruit from Creative Impulse — our DuBrul $135 offering — and put it into this wine. Consequently, there is no 2019 Creative Impulse. Why did we do this? Because we wanted the Human[e] to be stellar and over-deliver. It is and it does!

The Human[e] Label

Designed by JooHee Yoon, South Korea

JooHee was born in South Korea and lived there until her early elementary school years. This had a formative impact on her and she still speaks and reads Korean fluently. When we asked her to contribute to this project, she was enthused. Her design concept celebrates the diversity of our world with the inherent common hopes and aspirations.

I took inspiration from the diversity of our world and the common hopes carried by all people regardless of how they might appear on the outside. This label design celebrates the fact that we can achieve greater things by coming together and working towards a better future.

2018 Human[e]

2018 Human[e]

This 100% Syrah is our first wine from our own vineyard and we are very proud. Our vineyard is in the Rocks District and this wine is quintessentially a Rocks District Syrah. It is a beautiful wine with high flavor density, crisp acidity, impeccable balance, and a very long finish.

The Human[e] Label

Designed by Rebecca Buxton, South Africa

This design showcases the iconic elements of a human fingerprint, contour lines on a map, and the ripple effect of giving.

What makes every single one of us unique as humans? Our fingerprint. Take a closer look at a fingerprint and you’ll see the resemblance to the contour lines of a map representing the land that joins us and how we’re all connected. Just like the lines on our fingerprints or the lines on a map representing our earth, we have an impact on each other. The ripple effect of buying this wine directly affects charities and those in need.
